Apparently smart self-publishing decisions: giveaway

At least for the moment, creating the giveaway on GoodReads.com seems to have been a smart decision.

I’m giving away three copies of Good Cop, Dead Cop, for which more than 200 have entered, and more importantly, more than 30 people have added GCDC to their to-read shelf. All I have to do is send out three copies when the contest is over, my major expense being the cost of the book, and I have several proof copies lying around, and the postage, although now I regret including Australia contestants.

I also regret making the contest last for two weeks. After one week, the contest has been pushed so far down the queue that no one’s going to find it anyway.

Of course I have no idea how many of the people who have marked it as to read will buy it. Certainly my online sales do not reflect a stampede of new readers, but at least more people know about the book than before. And I get the nifty widget above that I can plaster everywhere.
